Definition Recount Text
Is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience.
There is no complication among the participants and that differentiates from narrative.
Recount text is a text that is used to retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining.
Recount begin by telling the reader who war invrived, what happened, where this event took place and when it happened. This called the orientation.
• The generic structures of recount text are :
1. Orientation
It gives the reads the background information needed to understand the text such as who was involued, where it happened, when it happened.
2. Events
A series of event, ordered in chronological sequence.
3. Re-orientation
Restates the writers opinion or personel comment of the writers an the incident.
• The significant lexicogrammatical featurs :
- Use of simple past tense
- Use of temporal conjunctions (when, after, before, next, later, then)
- Use of personal pronoun (I, we, etc)
- Use chronological connection; then, first, etc
- Use linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc
- Use action verb; look, go, change, etc
Example :
One day Riko was walking home for school. He saw a man coming out of a shop. The man was carrying a lot of things. He was walking toward his car.
Suddenly something fell from the man’s pocket. Riko saw it, but the man did not realize it. Riko ran and picked up thing. It is a wallet.
Riko called the man and said that his wallet fell out. The man stopped and turned around. He came to Riko. Then Riko gave the wallet to him.
After receiving it, the man opened his wallet and took out some money. He wanted to give the money to Riko as a reward.
But Riko refused it by saying that he didn’t want the money. He just wanted to help him.
The man smiled and said that it was all right. He was not going to give him some money. One thing that the man wanted Riko to do was that Riko let the man take him home. Riko agreed and got into the man’s car.
In the car, they talked about Riko’s school. Riko was telling him about his friend’s. When they arrived at Riko’s house, the man told Riko’s parents about what happened.
Riko’s parents were very proud of their son.
